News of 2007

2007, November 25

Another month, another update. And it was about time too.

Yesterday, the Euro Scale Modeling event (organised by the Dutch division of IPMS) was held in Nieuwegein. I had planned to take the Ferrari F430 with me to enter it in the contest. But a last minute disaster prevented me from taking the car with me.
More about what happened to the Ferrari can be read in the Build Report.

A good thing that came from the bad thing mentioned above, was that I finally had some time to work on my other builds as my time was previously totally devoted to finishing the Ferrari. And especially Gigi Galli's Peugeot 307 received some long needed attention.

After the problem I encountered with the Ferrari I needed a bit of pep-talk. And what better way than to choose the next build that I'm going to start ?
I've been wanting to start this car for some time, but I had no reference images to speak of. But all that changed a few weeks ago, when I found some great pictures from this Martini sponsored racing car.
On this page, the kit is presented. And the build will commence shortly on the same page.

The following sections have been updated:

Quite a big update this time.
Thanks to the good weather in the weekends, I have been able to take some good pictures of some of my old models. You'll find the pictures in the modeling section of my site.

Apart from enjoying the good weather, I've also done some building on my models. And for all three current builds there's an update available.

And finally, I've extended the links pages with links to my favorite artists/bands and some general WRC and F1 links.
Apart from that I also have slightly changed the menu's. The work in progress icon has been removed and the inactive menu-items have been given a lighter colour than the active menu items.

Because of the amazingly bad weather during the summer time, I managed to get quite some things done on my models. 2 of them are nearing completion quickly and I hope to finish them sometime this year.
The first model I have started since my 15 year break, Inspector Morse's car, will probably not be finished this year. But although most work had been done on the Ferrari and the Peugeot, I'm still quietly working on the Jaguar.

Apart from modelling, quite some free time has been claimed by the PC games GTR2 and Bioshock. So that's another reason that work on the models is not going as fast as it could.

For this update, the following pages have been updated:

Good news. The problem with the top menu in IE has been solved. Some sloppy coding on my end.
That said: I still recommend using Firefox (or any other non-MicroSoft browser) because it's not MicroSoft...

Other good news. The weather is so crap here in the Netherlands that I did some more painting on my models.
I hope to have enough new pictures for an update very soon.

Not much work done on the models for this update.
Summer holiday and computer gaming have gotten in the way of modeling. And the attic is notoriously hot during the summer period, which is also a bit of a deterring factor for my modeling activities.

But I've been busy nevertheless.
In the previous update I already mentioned that I wasn't really happy with the looks of my site. And so I've started working on a new look.
And this is it.

My intention was to make the site a bit more transparent and easy to navigate. Also I wanted to give the site a look that is easier for the eyes.
I hope I succeeded in that intention.
Feel free to give some feedback or suggestions for improvement. You can contact me here.

One final note:
I tested this site with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.5 and Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180
Although the site works without problems in both browsers I noticed that the horizontal menu doesn't look as good in IE. There seems to be a vertical shift between the active and inactive menu-images in the menu. This is not intentional and I'll try to fix this problem. But as I don't use IE myself it's not a priority for me.
My tip (for now) : Don't use IE. It will make this site a better place !

Work on the models is continuing slowly but steadily.
I've been busy with some other things lately. I've discovered the great PC racing game GTR 2 and have been spending quite some time on it over the past few weeks.
One of the other things on my mind is the lay-out of this site. After my initial enthousiasm about the way it looks I'm a bit less happy with it now. I'm thinking about redecorating a bit. But it will probably take quite some time until drastic changes are being made. For now my first priorities are my models and GTR 2...

In between things I've managed to get some work done on some models. Below you'll find the pages that have been updated:

The first update.
I've been building on and off lately. Wanting to build more, but haven't got the time to.

Anyway, the following pages have been updated:

What's new ?
This whole site is. As of April 1 2007 this site is on-line.

Since I re-started my hobby of building plastic model kits I've been playing with the idea of a website dedicated to that hobby.
Mainly to show build reports and galleries of my builds. And for personal enjoyment (as I found building this site a nice challenge).
And hopefully you, my visitors, will enjoy this site too and might even pick up a trick here or there. Or share one of your own tricks with me.

Apart from this website I am a regular visitor of the following forums (my username is DerXL), where I've found a lot of my recently acquired knowledge and techniques:
